Social media (Twitter) tells the story of the Mumbai terror attacks

Comments

What I find fascintating is that the traditional news outlets are linking and broadcasting social media content for users who want 'breaking news'. Traditional media have realised that they can no longer be trusted for the most up-to-date info and are almost taking a 'collation and direct' approach for their audience.

I love it. I think it was only a matter of time. I wonder if these tragic circumstances in Mumbai will set the benchmark for what's to come or if we'll go back to square one with SM still needing to prove its value once this comes to an end?

Absolutely - I think we'll find that this will be the turning point. It will be interesting the way that it is responded to not only by traditional media but also government/regulators. There was info that was being twittered (reliable or not) that was obviously not meant to be made public at that point of time but without any monitoring was done so anyway.
