Going Undercover: Covert Marketing

Comments

interesting post lex. i think it's an age old issue applied in a new media world. p.t barnum often used less than truthful methods to get people to his shows.

covert marketing has always existed in some form or fashion. would you regard starting rumours as a new media issue? it's a covert way of pushing an agenda and ruining a reputation. it may not even be that sinister, what about the tooth fairy? is that not a less than truthful inducement for children to get their old teeth out?

i think a measure of good judgement needs to be applied. i talk about it in my post here: http://www.jonathannguyen.net/2008/09/is-deception-okay-in-advertising/
