And the Winner is 'You' - The Consumer
It is not a new thing to hear that we are in the midst of a consumer revolution. Today consumers are highly trusted by their peers. The higher the peer-to-peer trust, the more in control the 'consumer', as an entity, becomes. I'm sure I have shared the following examples with you before but think it's appropriate to dig up again. It stresses the pervasive nature of this time.
- Time Magazine votes Person of the Year...'You' the consumer
- US Ad Age magazine votes Agency of the Year... 'The consumer'
- eMarketer 10 Key Predictions, Number 3...'Social network growth'
- US Association National Advertisers Trend Number 1...'Consumer in control'
This revolution is having strong implications on the communications industry in particular. A fantastic example of this industry embracing and leveraging the consumer era and phenomonen is Australian Anthill Magazine. And as we see consumer generated content (CGC) on the rise, Anthill is offering readers the opportunity to blog and write on its behalf in the form of opinion pieces, feature articles, blog post etc... The magazine is even going as far as creating and packaging an entire magazine edition this year attributed to consumers (aka - the citizen journalist).
